Bullying. it's more serious than it sounds.

So recently I had a few questions on ask.fm about bullying. One of them was bullied because of weight and the other because of looks. I answered both questions how I would normally answer any question related to bullying. Don't be bothered about them because it's how you look at yourself that matters, and find someone to share your problems with. I thought this answer would be helpful, and it is to a certain extent.

But I know that an answer like that will never be enough for the person him/herself who is the victim of bullying. It's not so easy just to ignore the remarks of others, especially when the words spoken can be really nasty and hurtful, and it can go on for a long period of time. Over time the person suffers really badly, both mentally and physically. Their mood changes, they get scared really easily, and they become a totally different person. It's scary how a person who is usually hyper and cheerful can turn into someone who is totally quiet and afraid of being sociable anymore. The damage someone can suffer because of continuous bullying is not just being hurt emotionally for that one or two days, it can change the person totally.

Whatever I've said up to this point will not make the person feel any better or make the bullying stop. It won't help the person overcome his/her fear of being bullied in school or at home. But I just want to let people know how serious bullying can get. The reason for the huge number of teenage suicide cases is getting higher and higher every year, if you remember who Amanda Todd is, she is just one of the hundreds of thousands of people who commit suicide every year. And the reason for many of these suicides? Bullying, both face to face, or through being anonymous online, yes I'm referring to ask.fm.

In Singapore itself, we already have that many cases of bullying. Just look around in your school, the people who are “weird” are the ones who get bullied. I'm talking about the special needs students, who may be autistic, or physically disabled. Not only that, people get bullied cos of their looks and size. What was that about not judging people, society? On the outside, the victims keep quiet and are timid, but on the inside they're being torn apart bit by bit and sooner or later they reach the breaking point and then...

BUT, there's is a way to stop bullying, both in school, out of school, or even online. Most bullies are pretty timid inside, they bully others to feel strong and all mighty. But deep inside they too are scared of being bullied by others, so instead of being the victim, they choose to be the culprit. What we can do to help those being bullied is to stand up for them. I'm not asking you to fight the bullies or even bully them back. By just saying something like “Hey! Stop bullying him/her, it's not funny!”, the person being bullied knows that he/she is not facing the bullies alone. That alone make them feel better, and the more people who stand up against the bullies for them, the more they will feel that they're not in this fight alone.

Sure, one person standing up against a group of bullies will not make much of a difference. But the more people join in, the more the bullies will feel like they're being the ones bullied instead. Of course, there's is no need to start bullying the bullies. Bullies target people who have no one to stand up for them, like friends. The moment others start to stand up for the bullied, the less courage the bullies will have to continue. You don't have to go to the extent of threatening them, but just tell them off. One person may not make a difference but a group of people can.

And lastly, to the bullies who are reading this, if there are any. How would you feel if you were the one being bullied and had no one there to help you?

(Sorry for the long read, it's not easy to say everything I want to say in such a short post, but I hope I got the point across :D)

The Fox Says...

Well that was an attention grabbing title wasn't it? WA PA PA PA PA PA PA POW!

...

...

...

Not funny ah? K. Anyway by the time you read this it will still be Sunday but you will be feeling even worse because school reopens tomorrow for the secondary school students. :)

Just kidding I'm here to cheer you up, down, left and right! So what if there's school tomorrow? So what if you're going to face the same boring teachers with the same boring lessons giving you the same boring homework? So what? You've survived school this long, you've persevered, you've endured the long hours of torture under the Cher's menacing glare and long hours of repetitive maths examples. You've also endured the "short" principle's speeches which go on for half an hour and makes even the Chers fall asleep!

Be proud of yourself, cos you're the sperm that swam first to the egg. Be proud that you've come to where you are without being frustrated enough to actually "burn your homework" which you've said countless times but have no actual guts to do it. Be proud that you can still go to school everyday even though you've wished countless times for it to burn down/flood/explode/get abducted by an alien spaceship.

You can do this, you can survive 5 continuous days of torture and hardship in classrooms! Look forward to recces where you can gossip with your classmates while being in the insanely long and slow queues! Be excited for the science practicals where you can get really cool reactions from watching your teacher's demonstrations which you never really have a chance to do! Be happy that you can finally get out from class at the end of the day to go to your CCA which lasts until dinner time!

With that many good things to look forward to from a school which you thought was boring, dull, full of unreasonable teachers and classmates who talk behind your back, what's there to dread? Look forward to tomorrow when you can see your classmates and copy homework from them as fast you can!

Here's wishing all students a good Monday tomorrow! :)

Note: If you detect sarcasm in this post, you're really really smart. Bravo.

Singlish

Someone asked me to do this so....

For all those blur blur ones out there, Singaporeans included, here is a list consisting of my Singlish knowledge.

FYI Singlish is a mixture of English, Malay and dialects.

1. BO JIO: Why didn't you ask me along too? Used when you know your friends are outside but they didn't include you.

2. WAH LAO EH: Used an expression to express frustration/disappointed/anger/just about anything you're not happy with.

3. LAH LEH LOR: Used as an expression also. E.g I don't want lah, I saw it leh, anything loh.

4. BASKET: Singlish form of BASTARD

5. HOSEHBO: Means "How are you?", used mainly by Ah Bengs, and by students trying to act cool.

6. SIMI: Not see me, but simi, meaning "what?"

7. HUMJI: Means no balls/no guts.

8. GUAI LAN: Used to refer to a person who is an asshole/douche.

9. LANGA: Getting hit by something.

10. KENA/KANA: Means either "like/got" e.g Kena sai lah (like shit), he kena detention(he got detention)

11. SIAO: Crazy E.g You siao ah?

12. BODOH: Means an idiot in Malay.

13. CEPAT: Means hurry up in Malay

14. HANTAM: Means to beat/hit, also used when someone is going to get into trouble. E.g Wah later he confirm kena hantam by cher one!

15. CHER: Short form for teacher, created by Singapore students.

16. CHIOBU: Means pretty girl. E.g Wah chiobu sia!

17. CHAO DA: Burnt, overcooked food. E.g OI you cook so long already not scared chao da ah?

18. SIBEI: Literally means "Die father", but used as an expression for "extremely". E.g This food sibei tasty man!

19. CHAO KENG: Means to pretend to be sick/injured in order to be excused for something. E.g Wah lao he pretend he sick sia, chao keng only!

20. PENG SAN: Meaning to faint. E.g Eh drink more water if not later you halfway peng san!

21. STEADY: Means being smooth in doing something. e.g Wah lao see he run so fast, steady lah!

22. MATI: Means die in Malay, used when getting into trouble. E.g Eh shit teacher saw us already we mati!

23. DIAM: Asking someone to shut up, in a rude way.

24. SIAM: Asking someone to move out of the way, in a rude way.

25. Ka Ni Na: A vulgarity, literally means "fuck your mom". But used with anything, Singaporeans as usual.

26. Chao Chee Bye/Chao Chee Bong: Literally means "smelly vagina" but as usual, used as a vulgarity that goes with nearly anything.

27. EH/OI: Calling someone, like "hey!"

Ok that's all I can think off. Now my brain already want to mati already.

RT for a....

RT for a tbh
RT for a rating
RT for a impression
RT and I'll blah blah blah

RT and I'll touch your face with a jackhammer traveling at a speed of 100km/h.

Enough please there's more to twitter than RTs, what about favoriting and following and quoting and unfollowing you cos this shit is too mainstream?

Guys headache ah really. I remember we migrated from facebook to twitter cos we hated all the like for this and that. Now you want to bring these foreign things here? Sorry ah I don't want, go back to where you came from, facebook.

There's a good reason to be pissed off. I don't think most people actually give an honest opinion of people, most of the tweets I see are extremely ego and morale boosting. If you wanted to make someone's day better just tweet them, anytime and anywhere. You don't need a TBH or RT for a something to do a good deed like that.

Are people just following the bandwagon cos it's the mainstream thing? Yes.

Is it a good thing? Yes, somehow we're spreading the love around.

Is it genuine? Not really no, most people have really bad things to say about people, they just choose to say something fake.

Does it make the other part feel good? Yes definitely, who doesn't love compliments?

Now, if only you could do the same thing for them everyday. Just send them a text or even DM them and say the same thing everyday to make them feel better. You don't a twitter trend to do that please, if you really care for people and want them to feel less emo, do it.

If I received a tweet or DM from even a few friends wishing me well I would be happy for that day. Perfect good morning tweets to wake up to also.

So my advice to people. Sure go on ahead and do such a thing, I won't deny it's good to a certain extent. But please, don't do it for the sake of RTs or following what is mainstream, do it because you really care for others and want to brighten up their day.

FYI, criticism can be good too, a high ego can be potentially harmful too.

Studying in Singapore

Hey guys, I bet you saw my tweets already. I could go on for quite awhile on twitter but that would be spamming your timeline. Instead I decided, at the last minute to do this blog post to basically offer my opinion on this whole matter.

Brace yourselves for a lecture, but trust me it's a good lecture. :)

First off, our current system, how's it like. We go to school in the morning, go through a shitload of lessons, most of which are theoretical concepts drilled into us through hours and hours of repeated examples and questions, most of which we have no idea what we're actually doing but just by FOLLOWING THE FORMULA we were taught, we're able to obtain the answer. We don't know what the reasons behind learning it are, we don't know what the use of it is in the real world and we most certainly have no idea how the shit it actually works.

That is basically what you go through everyday in school and that is basically what your Primary to Secondary school life is all about. Being drilled in the theories and concepts, which includes maths and scientific formulas, different rules of grammar and vocabulary and a whole load of other things that we forget by the time the lesson ends and our minds are dead.

That's not all, I'm sure many of you have tuition. Extra lessons paid by your parents which you are forced to attend against your own will to "improve your understanding of the subject". Truth be told yes tuition is helpful to a certain extent because it's conducted at a smaller scale (Group tuition) or even at a personal level (home tuition). The problem is, it still follows the same concept. Drilling theories and all the awesome stuff that makes shit sense to you because firstly, you just need to memorize it and vomit it out on paper without even knowing how it actually works. Secondly, as usual you forget lots of it after the lesson ends.

When was the last time the teacher actually demonstrated something out live in front of the class. For maths, bringing in those gigantic set squares, protractors and what not into the class. And actually showing you on the board some stuff? Hardly? Yes I agree, most teachers walk into class with a shitload of work sheets that end up you never do by yourself and get help from those that actually understand the lesson.

So my main point here is, I can't change the system and neither can the government that quickly because firstly, schools in Singapore do not have enough resources to buy so much equipment or items to make the lesson "more lively" like actual models of stuff that you learn in science or maths. Nonetheless I find video lessons very helpful, especially if it's interactive. NOTE, there are two kinds of video lessons, the type where the narrator talks on and on in that super boring voice when eventually you fall asleep to, OR the type when the video pauses and you get to actually work with whatever is inside. THAT's the kind of video lesson I like.

More ever, teachers and the society alike are always asking students to "explore" on their own. Well that's fine with me but what the heck is there to explore if I don't even know what to explore? Please teachers, at least give us some websites or books that we can ownself look into if we really don't understand your lesson, in which most cases it's like that, or at least tell us where we can look for more info. All I ever hear at the end of lessons are "Ok class, these are the homework for today, please complete them by when and when".

Homework, yes it's useful in helpful us recap and revise what we learn during the lesson...if we understand it. Whenever teacher says if you have any questions come find me after school...yea well the thing is teachers always have meetings after schools until dunno what time and students have CCA's also. And you wonder why so many people are stressed.

To end this post off, just want to say even after you read this, if you actually did, know that I'm not trying to fight the system, I just want to offer my opinion on it. There are certain reasons why we can't change our education system in such a short time but I just hope in the future, something better will happen.

How it all started...

So as you guys know my twitter account has been around for one year and one month. It has 17k tweets, 15k followers and I have had a load of fun being the admin of it.

It's been a great journey and I want to thank of all my followers for staying with this account for so long. Especially some that always reply my tweets with your own funny ones :).

Now let's trace back all the tweets..

This was my very first tweet, it got only 1 retweet than, on 28 July 2013. I know if I tweet this again I would get a lot more, but that's not the point. The point is I'm amazed at how much I've done with this account. I never expected to get 5k followers let alone the 15k I have now and I'm just so thankful to all my followers.

Yes I may just be a quote account but for me that is an achievement in life itself(so drama sia).

Now some people have asked me on ask.fm why I made this. Simple, I was really bored, and yes that's the truth. I was really bored after my O Levels and sat down at my computer one day looking at tweets from other quote accounts at that time. @Singa_tweets @chaocheebong @schoolprobIems @_sgkid and maybe some others I forgot.

So yes, they "inspired" me to make this account and here I am.

The End.

I'm back! With a NDP song!

Hey guys!

I know I kinda forgot about this...cos I got really busy and all with school work, projects and life.

Yea I have a life, I actually do.

So, to start things off. TODAY IS THE FIRST YEAR ANNIVERSARY OF LIVING IN SINGAPORE.

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

*krik*krik*

Ok nevermind. Anyway just want to thank of all of you guys for this entire one year! It's been a great experience and a lot of fun being the admin of livinginsg, and I'm amazed at how many people have followed me, and how many have been following me for so long. :D I love you all.

So I bet you guys have heard this year's NDP song already? Yes I tweeted alot about it, and frankly I don't hate the song. I just really don't think it's suitable for a National Day Parade, it just doesn't fit in.

Maybe the kids would like it better if it played on okto in the morning, just saying.

SO, I have decided.....to write MY OWN NDP SONG!!

There's not gonna be a tune to it, feel free to sing to it in your own way, or rap to it, up to you, hope you guys will like it!

Even if my bus takes so long to come
Even if I still need to smell people's BO everyday on the MRT
I will still treat Singapore as my home

Because Living In Singapore

Regardless of Ah Bengs, Ah Lians, and Ah Guas
Even if Steven Lim still keeps singing in his videos
Even if teachers still want to keep giving us homework
Living In Singapore
Is where I'm meant to be

I don't care if I kena STOMP
I don't care if I kena fine
I don't even care if tomorrow is a Monday
I will still love Singapore, everyday, in every way

Mainstream-NESS

So basically lots of things are mainstream. Clothes/music/food/games and just about everything else. There's always that one trend many people love to follow because well...everyone else is doing the same thing. Take the latest game that's extremely popular right now.

Well I know it's been more than a week since my last blog.

Hehe sorry. I've been pretty busy lately and somehow forgot to do it.

Back to the topic, mainstream-ness. I don't care if that's not a word I'm using it here. :)

Fun Run, and it's popular because you can play with friends and not just alone! Trust me if that game didnt allow you to race, and kill your friends, I doubt many people would enjoy it that much. It's like the second Candy Crush + some random screaming you make when someone magnets you.

Second mainsteam-ness thing.

This Geek shirt right here, trust me I think this should be a school uniform because so many people at town wear it it feels like I'm in geek land liao.

Now there are other mainsteam-ness stuff like music and food. Music being popular artist like 1D and Justin Bieber(I can hear fan girls mentally screaming in their heads now), and food like Bubble Tea and Lao Ban, which used to be mainstream.

I'm not saying wearing it is a bad thing to be mainstream, nono not at all. What I'm saying is that it is JUST TOO OVER RATED. It's like making homework look like it's a death sentence, well actually it is but that's not the point.

It's alright to get into this mainstream thing, but what I don't like is it's just way too over rated in a sense that something that's not that awesome or epic to begin with becomes worshiped just cause well...everyone is doing the same thing.

So that's my opinion, it's up to you to decide if you agree or not. Just think carefully if you're doing something because you really think it's fun/nice or you're doing it cause all your friends are too.

P.S I've started using photos in this blog but I'm not sure how it will turn out. Credits to Google.

Haze and Pi Sai

So guys.

I'm sure you all know what this post is going to be. No it's not going to be a rant on this haze, even though I would very much love to rant.

No no no no, this post is going to be all about how to deal with the haze.

First off, stop complaining on twitter. It won't help the haze at all. I've been seeing nearly every tweet on my TL all about the haze. If complaining on twitter helped to clear out the haze...the haze would have been cleared out in one hour already. So what to do? Just keep updated about it, and take measures to ensure that your health is good.

Secondly, WHATS WITH POSTING THE PICTURES OF HAZE?! I CANT EVEN SEE SHIT YOU WANT ME SEE WHAT?! I know you're trying to prove a point that the haze is really affecting your visibility of whatever you're looking at. Trust me I think nearly the whole, if not the whole Singapore and some other countries are also experiencing the same thing. It's really something we can all sympathize with each other about but at the same time can't do anything about it. If you really WANT to help people online, a good step would be to tell people how to keep healthy in this weather, that would be much more helpful....trust me.

Thirdly and lastly, guys stop complaining the PSI, go up go down go left go right go front go back. PSI is PSI....what you SHOULD be more concerned about is how to keep YOUR HEALTH STABLE. There are many people with breathing/heart problems that are much worse off than us. The worst thing you feel is some breathing difficulties....there are people out there who can barely even breathe. Be thankful that you still have the energy to complain on twitter and facebook!

Lastly guys, drink lots of water, have enough rest, and also STAY INDOORS. I have no idea why people love to tweet pictures of the outdoors, which is blurry, yet they still stay outside. I mean if you really thought the weather was bad, why not just stay at home or go to a enclosed area?

I think the whole haze thing is being blown up way out of proportion. Haze can be bad for health yes, but not if you know how to take measures to ensure you're not badly affected. So guys....this haze won't last for a whole year, just a week or so at the most. So just stay home during this period..and then we can all stop complaining after Sumatra runs out of trees to burn.

EC, Crush and Love.

You see that person in the crowd....he, or she, looks amazing to you. A stunning face, great smile, eyes and everything else.

You think you're in love......

WAIT WAIT WAIT HOLD THE FUCK UP

You sure not?

There's a pretty big difference between Eye Candy, Crush, and Love.

A real big fucking difference, so learn it.

Eye Candy

You just like to look at that person. You haven't talked to them even once, not even made eye contact, but yes you admire the person's looks from a distance. You stalk the person everyday on twitter and facebook, just to see their face. You dream about his or her face every night before you sleep.

Yes, that's still called an eye candy, I hope you understand why. See face only.

Many people don't understand that Eye Candy means you like to look at a person because you find them pretty/handsome. You don't have to even know their names, just the face itself. Many at times from that we believe that we're “in love” and that's a load of crap. An eye candy is just pleasing to the eye, simple as that, nothing more, nothing less.

Crush
This is where things progress slightly further...

A crush. You've seen that person, you've made friends with that person, you even talk to that person regularly. Yes it's progressed from just knowing their face to knowing their names, attitude, behaviour and character. And if you still feel attracted to them somehow, yes we will call that a crush.

But no, it's still not love, don't confuse that.

A crush....is someone you like cos of their looks maybe and also their character. Someone can have the face of a fairy tale character which you feel attracted to. But once you find out about their character it can be a major turn off, and then you don't feel an attraction to them anymore. That's why many people have eye candies which they want to “get to know better” and end up disappointed.

But wait...no that's not love yet.

Love
This is a stage when you're already very close to that person, know his or her character well enough, still like them and still feel attracted to them. You also cannot go a moment without seeing/talking/listening to their voice. Yes yes really overly attached.

But there's a big difference between a crush, and love.

Let's say...you meet someone else one day, another person whom you find looks really attractive and has a great attitude you love too. And then you realise....you like them too. And yes, that's called a crush.

So what now? You have one person you love, and another person you crush on? That's bullshit.

LOVE is when you really feel for a person so much, no one else can compare. Even when you meet another person who has even better looks and personality you still love that first person even more. It's when you only have eyes for that one boy/girl and even if some Miss Universe turns up at your house the boy/girl is still the best looking in your eyes.

It means that your feelings stay loyal to a person no matter who else you meet in your life. So no matter how pretty/sexy/hunky other guys or girls are, you still only feel that crazy love for that one person and no one else can compare. It means you accept that person's flaws and bad sides, and you love them even more because of it.

That...is a rough meaning of love.

Even after all these explanations, understand that what I'm talking about here is still considered teen love and not true love. True love is when you face hardships with that person but still manage to pull through....well because you really love that other person and don't want them to get hurt by you. That's true love. Being able to go through the storms of life together without falling apart.

Hope you guys enjoyed reading this pretty sentimental and maybe mushy post. I wrote this well....because I just went through my own experience and it was really confusing for me to decide who I actually have a crush on and who I really like. But at the end of the day I really know that the girl whom I thought I was so crazily in love with, was just another crush. :)

Singapore School Holidays.

Hey guys, another week, another post! :)

So, it's the school holidays now right? At least for most people it is, I hope you guys are enjoying your holidays as much as you can, because well as we all know, school holidays in Singapore don't exactly feel like holidays.

Why do I say so? Because we have this very weird, special and annoying as fuck thing called holiday homework. Only available in Singapore. Because schools are so kiasu, they scared you during holiday enjoy too much come back school everything forget. Which is actually correct also. So they jam up your "holidays" with homework and make this new term called "holiday homework".

Want say homework just say homework lah, still add what holiday in front of it, think it sounds nicer ah? End up like no holiday also...

So apart from the actual holiday homework which no one really bothers to do properly or put in effort because we simply cannot give a single flying Merlion, let's talk about other stuff that we as Singapore students do during the holidays.

LEPAK AT TOWN

Probably the most common pastime during school holidays is for teens/students like us to go out with friends to town. Places like Orchard Road, Bugis are extremely crowded during the holidays. Plus now got Great Singapore Sale we all chiong to buy all the stuff that we don't need yet, but because it looks nice and got good offer right, MUST BUY.

SPEND SPEND SPEND

Probably the most annoying thing about holidays is having no proper pocket money/allowance because our parents think. Hm.....you no school right? So don't need give you pocket money right?

HUH???? I never go out with my friends one meh?

So we end up having to sort of beg our parents some times for that extra few dollars(ok maybe ten dollars or more sometimes) just to go out with our friends. Be it movies, arcades, shopping or anything else that costs money. We have to save and scrimp during the holidays and it really sucks.

GOING OUT

No one likes to be left out. No one. And that's why we always hope our friends/classmates will ask us out during the holidays. Even if it's just one person that asks us out we'll still go along because it feels good to know that even when there's no school people still take the effort to ask you out.

But when people go out.....post pictures on twitter, facebook, Instagram and what not....and NEVER ASK US ALONG.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Ya lah confirm say that one, BO JIO. In case you're still living in 2000 and have no idea what this means. It simply translates to something like "Never ask me along?" It's when your own friends go out together and freaking never ask you right, that you say this.

It really doesn't feel good when you know that people are aware of your existence but choose not to ask you out. And then for the rest of the day you feel like everyone hates you and no one wants to be with you. In other words, emoing.

TIME REALLY FLIES

They say time really flies. Actually it only does when you're having fun, I don't recall my boring lessons seem to pass very fast. But the weekends really zoom by. Same with holidays, when you're enjoying yourself so much you start to lose track of the days, weeks, months, years, decades, centuries, and millenniums. And it suddenly seems that one whole week of the holiday goes by too fast. Way too fast.

And then the next thing you know.....

Principal: Welcome back to another school term!

FUCK NO!!

Friday 31 May 2013

Reserved MRT seats, everytime kena on youtube one.

Right guys, I know I said I would try to post a blog up every week.

Well here it is.

First of all, happy Friday to everyone #TGIF.

Second of all, grats to all those who did well for their MYE, and thankfully it wasn't Meet Your End.

For those who didn't do as well as they expected, work harder and all the best!!

So for today's post, it's going to be about..............public transport.

Well not exactly public transport in general but in specific.....the incident that happened a day or two back, I posted the video on twitter if you guys saw it. And it was about two Uncles arguing over a reserved seat. Now most of you have probably seen it. For those who haven't, go check out my twitter or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aRUa6rg3dIo

So we know about another case where this auntie was scolding this Ah Lian for taking the reserved seat remember? In this case well....both were Uncles and both were acting like Ah Boys. Their men lah please act like Men like.

From Ah Boys to Men. Okay not funny.

So anyway...I know quite a few people are afraid of taking the reserve seats nowadays for fear of being scolded and put on youtube and going viral. That's actually a legit fear, because I myself also don't dare to sit on reserve seats now. In fact I stand up during train journeys unless I'm super tired and macam want peng san.

After this incident I think many people will think twice about sitting on reserved seats. No doubt there's no law against it but then again those seats were given priority to some people. Such as pregnant ladies, parents with small kids, injured people and of course, senior citizens. And tired students also, but not approved by gahmen yet that one.

I don't want to go into the details of who I think is wrong or right because there's no point. Both were somehow already wrong when they started arguing and cursing just over ONE reserved seat and it doesn't make sense. Plus there was already an empty seat beside it.

What I want to say is simple, next time when you're on the MRT, it doesn't matter which seat you take. It also doesn't matter who you give it up to. Singaporeans have been bred with the mindset that they have to give up their seats. And that's true, but most people do it out of guilt and fear of being looked upon as selfish and inconsiderate. I know it's good to give up seats but we have the wrong mindset of doing it.

People are giving up seats because they're afraid of being criticised as inconsiderate? Giving up seats should be an act of kindness, not an act of fear. That's just the wrong thinking and we won't go far with that. I know it's still a good act but we shouldn't be doing it for the sake of having to do it.

No, not at all. If you see anyone at all who you think needs the seat more than you do, give up your seat. Even if you're not taking the reserve seat, but just any seat, it's still good to give it up to someone who needs it more.

A lot of Singaporeans have this mindset that just because I'm not sitting on a reserved seat, it means I don't have to give it up because this is just a normal seat and not a reserved seat.

Bullshit.

The reserved seats were created to give priority no doubt, but shouldn't we also go pass that thought and understand that if a person really needs the seat more, giving it up to make their train ride more comfortable isn't so hard?

Many at times we Singaporeans go by the rules. If it's a reserved seat I'll give it up because reserved seats are meant for senior citizens and others who may need it. If it's not a reserved seat I have the right to continue sitting on it.

Uh......SMLJ?

So I just want to say again, when on MRT's or buses, if you see someone who really may need a seat, just give up yours to them. Even if you're sitting at the middle which totally isn't a reserved one, there's no harm in giving it up. And also Singaporeans can be very paiseh one ok. They will say things like “Dunnid lah dunnid lah”. But just give them the seat anyway. Don't be a total bodoh and sit down again. That one sure kena STOMP one. :P

Anyway thanks for reading as usual, and hope that you like this!

Trolls? Noooooo, haters.

Oh hey guys and girls!

So recently there have been some trolls around twitter, won't name them but I can see them on my TL and shtuff.

SO WHAT ARE TROLLS.

Well actually let's not call them trolls, cos well....trolls are supposed to be smart, and many of them are not.

Let's call them haters. Everyone has haters, including me. So these haters start to post mean things and direct them to you and then you get all mad and start arguing back with them.

DONT.

They enjoy making you mad. Now let's get back to the troll part. That's where trolling comes in handy, basically you're arguing back with them, but at the same time 'suaning' then. So whatever hate they send to you gets turned into a joke. And then they try to make you made again and they fail because you troll them back again.

It's not worth getting mad over such people trust me....they only hate because of a few reasons. First, they hate you for whatever you tweet. Second, they're probably jealous you're just better than them. Third, they really are immature with nothing better to do and thus vent their anger A.K.A keyboard warriors online. Don't get mad over such low lives, they're just NOT worth your anger. Vent your anger on your MYE results instead. :P

So.....this is a short post because basically there's nothing much I want to talk about these haters simply because they aren't worth my time.

One last message to any haters out there.

KEEP HATING BITCHES, AND ENTERTAIN ME. :D

Stress levels OVER 9000

Hey guys!

So I know my last blog post which was about 10 years ago was a little......angsty.

Yea I was raging very badly.

But enough about that, today I'm not going to be doing that. (Or maybe I will)

'Stress ah!!!!!"

I think this two words are damn common among us students/youngsters/teenagers and even adults nowadays.

Why ah? Cos we live in Singapore loh, that's why bo bian.

Kidding. Stress happens everywhere, that's why people commit suicide, starve themselves, self abuse and all that bad things. It's not necessarily do to the heavy workload that's place upon us about every second of the day. There are many reasons for stress.

But in Singapore, we have a few different reasons to get stressed.....

1. Work, work, work, and oh.........work.

I don't think there's actually a day in Singapore we're free of work. Sure may lepak for one whole day at times, WHILE worrying about the outstanding work we have. I don't think we can rest without worrying about how your exam results are or how you will be able to complete your homework (copy lah of course)

Even when we do have holidays, guess what? HOLIDAY HOMEWORK PEOPLE!!

2. The weather

We all so scared of kena heat stroke, fall sick, sweat like mad. Cos the weather in Singapore is so bloody hot we can cook one whole set of dinner courses on the roadside itself. Not only that, everytime we go out hor, the moment we step out of the house it's like the temperature changed by a few degrees. And that's not the worse, when you go on public transport, the aircon is meant to cool you down. BUT NO, the combined heat of all the hot people from Singapore makes you sweat like a pig.

And you wonder why we like to go shopping centers. Shopping also lah....

3. Money money money........wah lao fly away liao.

First day of the week, get pocket money. By the middle of the week need start eating only chicken nuggets or go diet to save money, if not by end of week hor all the money fly to your favourite stall in the canteen already.

Those people that are lucky enough to be able to get much more money for the allowance also anyhow spend, then they by the end of the week see their wallet only got coins left. Summore also not $1 coin is those 10 cent 20 cents nia...

So people, remember to spend money wisely, only on food and everything else!!

Sometimes I look at my wallet and I cry.....because I miss Yusof Ishak's face so much.

4. Parents

I think all of you can relate to this.

Nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag nag.

Wah siao liao, I want do homework also cannot concentrate because got orchestra playing in front of me.

Summore the orchestra conductor is bad.

I hate how parents nag, even though it's for our own good. It makes us worried that we aren't doing well enough and we do try our best to "do our best" for our homework. For those with siblings it's even worse, you get compared to your brothers, sisters, neighbours kids, pet dog, pet cat, pet fish, neighbours pets, ah ma, ah gong, neighbours ah ma ah gong. I kid about the last few.

And then parents ask us "AIYO AH BOY/AH GIRL AH, WHY YOU LOOK SO STRESS???"

Cos I always kena tekan by you at home?

___________________________________________________________________________________
___________________________________________________________________________________

Anyway guys thanks for reading this. Hope you guys can relate, I think most can lah. I'll try to blog more often, and maybe.....some other stuff if I can :D.

Till then, all the best for your MYE results!! Don't stress!!

Why I hate facebook.

So it's been awhile.

Let's get straight to the point.

WHY I HATE FACEBOOK.

A few reasons, we all know facebook is dying down. It's become a place where assholes posts pictures of babies with serious illnesses, and ask for "likes"

Example.

"Look at this baby who is battling cancer, look how strong she is!!

Like=$1
Share=$1

Ignore if you don't have a heart"

Seriously? This is so disgusting, even more than Steven Lim's videos! Not only are these "pages" trying to get likes, they're also taking advantage of these babies/people to get sympathy likes.

And do you honestly think the one like equals to a dollar being given? FUCKING BULLCRAP.

I really hate those pages that post even those more gruesome pictures of babies that have deforms in/on their body. Pictures that I'M PRETTY SURE the parents would not want to be shown publicly on facebook or anywhere else.

This pages are out for the likes and comments that are given out of sympathy. People are pressure to like that photo or whatever just to feel like they've done something good. It's disgusting and shows what kind of fucked up society we live in.

Now and then there will be people commenting on these kind of pics and telling them off. I think that's what we all should do. When we see such a post, immediately go on and tell the rest of the people that they're just trying to exploit the children to get likes.

There are REAL ACTUAL WAYS of helping such kids. There are organizations and societies that specialise in taking care of such children and if you REALLY have a heart, donate to these TRUE groups of people that actually do something.

I'm sick and tired of seeing my facebook friends like all these photos and pictures. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with doing such a thing. But it's the people who started posting such pictures just to get likes are the people I really want to kill. They're shameless and don't know how to respect others.

If you're still reading up to this point, I just want to say I hope you've learned something here. If you share the same views as me I'm glad. If you think there's nothing wrong and disagree with everything I've said up there, I can't help it either. Anyway, thanks for reading my rant on this and I hope you guys look at this with a different perspective.

Peace, @livinginsg

How To Tell If You're A Singaporean

Here's a short blog post on how to tell if you're a Singaporean! Enjoy!

1. COMPLAIN
For Singaporeans we don't need to think of anything to complain about, simply because anything can make us complain. The weather, public transport, work, school, even food! The average Singaporean complains nearly every hour and only stops when he/she goes to sleep. However scientists have been unable to determine if Singaporeans still manage to complain in their dreams (Last sentence is a joke)

2. DISCOUNTS
Who bothers to wait for Great Singapore Sale to buy stuff at a cheap price? No one! Singaporeans LURVE to shop, especially the females. And we won't go for anything too expensive, because well...we're poor. So even if something costs $200 we will manage to bargain until the shop keeper also buey tahan give us discount. Also we have this awesome ability to chiong to any shops with the signs "50% SALE ONLY FOR TODAY" or "BUY 2 GET 1 FREE!!". It's a skill that we have developed throughout the decades of staying in Singapore.

3. 4K's Kan Chiong, Kiasi, Kiasu, Kaypoh.
If any of these four seem familiar to you, then you're most probably a Singaporean. We love to chiong for anything and everything, and are afraid to lose and get in trouble. Most annoyingly, we're busybodies, no matter what happens you'll definitely know because there will be a group of people gathering around and gossiping, or simply go on twitter and facebook and you get the latest news faster than your parents. We're also kiasu which means "afraid to lose". WE MUST WIN NO MATTER WHAT. No matter if it's getting the first seat in the MRT or getting the top for exams or even eating finish the fastest, we must always be the first.

4. SINGLISH
If you know what language this is or have spoken it for nearly your entire life......you're most definitely a Singaporean. Words like 'lah' 'leh' and 'loh' are something that you use in almost every sentence sia. Apart from the basic Singlish, some of us have even gone further and learnt other languages such as Malay and Hokkien, and using words in that language that aren't exactly part of Singlish. And also learning vulgarities of course. Singlish is so recognised that even the Oxford Online Dictionary has included 'lepak' as part of it. Singlish is going to dominate the world soon WOOHOO!! (I wish)

So short post here but I hope you guys enjoyed it or found it interesting!!

Stop the comparing, seriously...

Note that this post that not apply to ALL parents, just some, but still the number is quite big.

Yes I know I said I wouldn't blog for awhile since like...yesterday? But things happen. I saw someone post a picture on twitter showing this kid, who's 9 years old, being able to score an A for O Level Maths. Then the first thing I think about is all the parents starting to compare their own kids with this kid, and then the aunties and uncles kids with their own kid, and the neighbors dog with their own kid.

What's WITH THIS COMPARING SHIT?! YOU TIHNK LIKE THIS YOUR KID WILL SUDDENLY GROW SMARTER AND START SCORING ALL FUCKING A's isit? The only you give them here is freaking stress and pressure to perform for fear of letting the parents down. Honestly if all the parents just stop comparing maybe there wouldn't be so many emo kids in Singapore or so many cases of suicide. Parents always say "I give you pressure for your own good, so you will be motivated". Please, there's a BIG HUGE GIGANTIC TITANIC difference between pressure and just purely forcing their kids to perform.

Good pressure is when the parents tell their kids "I think you can do better than this" or "Why didn't you put more effort? I know you could have done better!". THIS is good pressure, encouragement but at the same time putting a certain amount of pressure so that the kid won't lepak everyday at home on facebook and twitter. BAD pressure is when parents start comparing the kid with their siblings, neighbors, cousins, cousins-in-law, friends, and the friends cousin also. You think it helps? No, it just makes the kid think that they suck and are a failure in life. Then they start getting all emo and shit and slash themselves. When parents find out they say

"OI YOU SIAO AH SLASH YOURSELF FOR WHAT YOU VERY STRESS MEH?"

No lah mummy/daddy I very bored mah homework all finish le wanted to try play with penknife. YOU DONT SAY? Of course stress lah the way parents put it across to kids is that you should score better than everyone else for me to actually be satisfied.

Screw that. School teaches us CME(Civics and Moral Education), for what? In the end all the shit about don't compare yourself with others, dont be influenced by your peers, just be yourself, you are who you are...are all thrown into the dustbin. Why cos parents don't care about that shit. They just want to say what they think, and they don't know how their kid is feeling, simply because they think they aren't giving their kids any pressure, or even if they are, a manageable amount.

So what I'm trying to say here is, don't let your parents force you to be what you aren't or force you to go beyond your own best. Sure they are right when they want you to try harder, that is if you are actually able to do better but are not putting in all your effort, that is perfectly alright. Because parents being parents want the best for their kids. But what I hate and can't accept is when parents push their kids beyond what they can do, and then drama starts to happen, but sadly only the kid feels it, and they're stuck in their own war.

No one else feels it but them. They think they are worthless, and they start abusing themselves because of the excessive pressure on them. I just want to say to all kids out there, do your best, but don't get put down by others remarks, because you are you and they are they. If we were all smart there would be no need for exams.

Peace out.

School, and why it sucks.

So....it's been awhile. In fact very long. Becos I just didn't know what to write about. But now I do.

School. Becos it's the Mother of All things we hate in our life. Apart from relationship problems, nagging teachers and parents, and having no internet connection. So why do we hate school?

According to a study conducted by the Society of School Haters, 99.99% of students hate school. The 0.01% are nerds with no life. So why do we hate school so much? Here are some excuses reasons why we hate it.

1. HOMEWORK
This piece of paper has brought alot of discomfort and trauma to many students. Many students are either trying to figure out how to fill this piece of paper with words or numbers, or asking help from their friends to copy it from them. Teachers however seem to love giving it to students, giving the reason that it is for their own good. This piece of paper sometimes are bundled up together to form a book, which has lines/boxes in it for students to write on. It has become a part of student life but is still a most hated part of it.

2. Exams
This is also another big issue in our schools. Not surprisingly it is also made up of papers which are attached together with a stapler. What's even worse is that these "Exams" have to be taken EVERY DAMN YEAR and we have to pass them or risk staying back. What's more, what's tested in these exams are almost impossible to answer and most of us are not able to score well. We are forced to remember a few years of content in a matter of a few weeks, a feat so great only students are forced to do it. It is even a miracle some of them manage to get an A1!!

3. Lessons
The worst part of school is probably this. In this part of school, students are forced to shut up and sit down and listen to an adult, called a "teacher" talk on and on about a certain topic for an hour or more. In the end, less than 50% of what the "teacher" said gets in our heads and we end up feeling more dead than ever. What's more, in this room called the "classroom", it can sometimes get so hot that we start sweating as if we just ran across the whole of Singapore and Sentosa. During this period, we are also given that paper called "homework" that we sometimes have to complete by the next day!! This is why we hate this part so much.

4. Detention
Schools have also found a way to punish students who do not please them. They call it "detention". It usually involves sitting outside the place where teachers work, called the "staff room", or in a classroom, doing extra work as punishment. In addition, sometimes our parents may be called and informed of our "bad behaviour".

So I hoped you guys enjoyed reading this blog post!! Hoped you found it funny enough, you better.....*evil grin

The next time I might blog will be probably ages, unless I can come up with something else to rant about.

CNY and Valentines Day!

So...two different topics in one post.

Anyway I know it's a little late but 恭喜发财,万事如意,身体健康,年年有余,学业进步,步步高升!! And that's about all the CNY well wishes I know, if you want leave some more in the comments lol!

So Chinese New Year is the time when the whole family gets together and bonds, eats, talks, gambles, gossips, asks if your cousins got boyfriend girlfriend yet not...it's actually very fun if you have a big family. Just imagine all the ang pao you cant get...Money wise it's good to receive a big ang pao from some rich uncle or auntie that you have but it's good to give too, that's where the gambling comes in. You usually lose more than you win. True story.

Apart from the money there's the goodies, which I bet most of you starved yourself until dunnid each lunch and dinner also right? Just kidding, but the sad part is I don't really like the goodies, EXCEPT bak gua and abalone of course!!

Year of the Snake! To whoever was born in that year, have a blessed CNY and may you prosper with money and love and also happiness! That goes for all the other animals too, rat, dog, pig, horse, bull, rooster, and some other's that I forget liao...

So Valentines Day now...yes it's that time of February when all of us get damn jealous seeing couples getting way too intimate outside...actually they always are intimate lah...Valentines Day or not. But the florist will be very busy these few days, if you know what I mean. It's also a good time for confessions, proposals and everything else romantic. If anyone actually breaks up on Valentines Day....give that bitch a tight slap. Seriously. Want to break up break up on other day DEFINITELY NOT VALENTINES DAY.

While love and money is filling the air let us remember that the rest of us are still busy with work and trying to find someone that will be our "special one". So look around! Go out on Valentines Day and see if anyone else is alone! And go say hi to them! Of course don't approach someone who already got partner, and don't go towards someone of your own gender...

To end this post off, just wanna say happy CNY to all again and to the people reading this who are attached, have a great valentines day!

Poly and JC

Hey guys and girls and aunties and uncles!

It's been awhile since my last post, but then again twitter is my main source of...posting. Also I don't know if any of you noticed but I've been a little inactive on twitter. On certain days I only tweet a few tweets, and some days none at all. Reason being I'm busy with Poly, and if you don't know already I'm a first year poly student in Temasek Poly. Grats to anyone that's going there too! :D

Which brings me to my topic of this post. Poly and JC, note that I didn't say V.S. There is no competition here, both have their pros and cons, but I'm not going to give a lecture on that, because that is boring. :P Instead, I'm going to just provide some info about both Poly and JC, for those wondering what it's like. Also, some tips on probably how to survive poly, good yes?

First, the huge difference between poly and JC, for me at least, is the uniform. Poly has NO uniform, dress code yes, you have to come to school wearing something. JC however is the same as Pri and Sec school. Uniform and dress code. That means no blablablablablablablablabla....things that the DM in school has said about as many times Steven Lim has dislikes on his videos.

Second, the studying. Poly is pretty carefree, independent learning and such. The lecturers won't really scold you, they chase you yes but they don't nag...It's more fun cos the timetable isn't fixed also. Certain days you start early, certain days late. Most polys are like that except for Republic Poly. Don't ask me I have no idea why.

Thirdly, poly has more projects than JC, and you confirm chop guarantee need to stay back late when chionging your projects last minute. Not really that good cos you end up anyhow do but no choice. However poly has lesser homework and exams, so if you hate studying and prefer more hands on stuff poly is the place for you!

Fourthly, I don't know why everyone go poly want to get a bf/gf. Guys especially. Once go in poly eyes fly everywhere, sometime on more than one girl. Girls reading this, watch out hor, not all the guys are good. For girls, dunno why some like to dress like go Geylang liddat, serious. If you want to show your body, please don't do it in school. We guys can't concentrate on lessons. :D At the same time you will get perverts in school giving you those eyes that creep the shit out of you. If you want to look attractive then dress casual good enough, at least that's what I think.

For JC, it's pretty much like Secondary school, except it's much harder, so good luck to those who go there. All the best!

Lastly, wherever you guys and girls are going to, best of luck in your studies and hopefully you will score well! Don't slack too much, even for poly students, it's not as relaxing as you thought!

I have to think of things to talk about by the way! So if anyone wants to suggest anything either DM me on twitter or comment on this post!

The New Year Post!

I know I'm a little late, I was sick for New Year, super suay yes I know. And it's still 4th Jan and first week of 2013 so I'm considering it as "new".

Happy New Year to all you people reading this! Have an awesome year ahead and may all your wishes and resolutions come true! Of course not everyone makes resolutions because it feels like homework.... o.o

So New Year means partying right? Marina Bay countdown, clubbing at Zouk/Siloso Beach etc etc. Party, get drunk, and wake up the next day with damn bad headache. That's new year in Singapore...New year also means must go shop shop buy new clothes, new pants, new underwear also.

Happy New Year? Eh priest lah teacher give so much homework last minute everyone chionging at home what happy? Stressful new year still can bah...if you want students to really have a HAPPY new year, you don't give them homework for the final holidays. If teacher want to give anything give ang bao we gladly accept, early CNY for us and more pocket money during holidays.

And also no one really was like OMG the world didn't end, and like ok loh see I told you those Mayans were wrong liao anyhow go say 21 Dec we all die. And then we start complaining again.

My new year wishes?1. Less complaining, from parents, teachers, and myself of course.2. Singapore weather also drop 1-2 degrees I happy liao, I duwan everyday wake up in sauna.3. Less homework, I not very smart student lah, need more time to do one piece of work, at least one week.4. Less MRT breakdown, worst thing is kena stuck in tunnel with no signal summore, at least stuck outside still can see scenery. 5. No stupid person with the name start with letter "A" go do something bodoh online or go wong people not to touch his gf. 6. I would like Singapore reservoirs and rivers to be free of bodies, our water bodies are not for diving, too shallow le.

So that's all for this post! Hope you guys liked my wishes! Enjoy your start of school again, if you can and don't always sian ji pua!
